Basic Training

A few months ago, Micah showed some interest in going potty in the big potty and he had a short stint of about 2 days where he managed to do "something" in the potty. That however was short lived and after that time, he hasn't been interested at all! I mean it was one of those things if you asked him, he would be mad and firmly state, "I don't want to go potty!" So, we decided to stop asking completely. However, that has changed a little since last Friday. He has started going potty in his potty chair! He wants absolutly NOTHING to do with the big potty, but he is very happy with his own potty chair. The other thing he is doing is standing up! He doesn't want to sit, he wants to stand like daddy or so he tells me!! Ok then.. We just go with it. We also have resorted to bribes. If he goes potty, he gets a special sticker and a little gimick toy of his choice. Nothing big, I mean something like a rubber lizard, a capsule toy that you put in water and a foam animal grows, a tattoo etc. We by no means are serious as I want him to get comfortable again before I push him further. So far, he goes before his bath and by the time we are done with the bath, he goes again and he usually willingly tries to go 1 more time during the evening. He is so very proud of himself and excited! I really don't think he has to concept that it is a forever deal at this point, he really just thinks it is fun to be do something and then be rewarded! That is fine for me at this point, I figure we will do this routine for a week or more depending on how he is doing with it and then we will add one more "trying" time into his schedule. We will see how it goes. I really hope this is it and we can get serious, but I am so scared to push him. I want him to keep going forward so that is why so far it has been mainly his doing. Keep your fingers and toes crossed!!

Good luck with the potty training. Before Natalie was born, I was more scared of potty training than labor. She was so easy though - underwear all day before 2 1/2. Daniel on the other hand.... he'll pee before bath, occasionally another time, and that's it. I'm convinced he'll be in diapers at kindergarden!!!

Potty training seems so long ago for our family! I have to say my boys were so much easier than my daughter! She was a nightmare!! Good luck with Micah :)
