Sommervold Invasion of Newton Hills

On Friday, June 3rd, we headed down to Newton Hills for a family weekend with the Sommervold crew. We had 21 adults and 10 kids who filled the lodge, 3 cabins and 1 camper. We got settled into our home away from home for the weekend, Micah was thrilled with the cabin we had. He was bound and determined to sleep on the top bunk because that was the coolest place ever! When it came down to it, he was in the bed across from us because it was a little scary. (Can you see my eye roll?) He always has a ball and I have to admit the cabin was pretty convenient. Other than the hard as a rock mattresses they were excellent. I believe the term Kurt used was "institutional", I guess we will remember the air mattress next time! After getting ourselves settled, we rode our bikes over to the lodge where the rest of the family were hanging out. We managed to play a little ball and socialize before it was time to hit the hay.
Saturday morning we started the day with breakfast at the lodge. Food is always a main priority when we all get together! We then decided to go play some ball, Frisbee and just hang out.

Marty pitching to Benjamen
Erin, Quinn and Charlotte
Jack's turn.. Holy cats this guy can hit!
Not to be out done by his big brother Jack, Andrew gave it a whirl!
Benjamin lookin good!
Micah's turn! He was having a tough time hitting the ball so he decided it was time to bust out the secret weapon! His star wars cape of course! (aka blanket!)
James pitching a heater with Mike and Bob playing the outfield.
Micah gearing up for the hit!
It was a line drive up the middle! Bob has the ball and is trying to run down Jedi Micah! Crazy how Bob stumbled and missed him so Micah wheeled around third and headed home!
There was a play at home, but Marty MISSED it!! It was an unbelievable error (wink) and Jedi Micah scored a HOME RUN! We had one happy little boy on our hands!
Brooklyn's turn to show what she is made of!
Little Jaxon was not to be out done! Uncle Marty was glad to him out!
We had fans too! Karzen and Charlotte were rooting them all on!
My hubby playin a little Frisbee with Brian
That afternoon while some of the kids (and adults) took naps, we took Micah fishing. As we walked up to the dock, there was a guy standing there and he caught a fish. He turned without thinking and said, "Hey buddy, do you want to help me?" Micah was super excited and took him up on his offer. He had caught a bass which Micah was excited about because he knew what it was! It warmed my heart that a guy that didn't know us would do that. The fact that we had just gotten there (it wasn't like Micah had been fishing and not caught anything) makes it even more awesome!Micah was super excited to go fishing and thought he would catch the big one! The day was a bust and he was pretty bummed, but he said he did have some fun.
Micah fishing his little heart outAfter having no luck fishing, Wayne was nice enough to give us a ride on the boat. Micah thought that was fun, mainly because he got to wear his new life jacket.
Benjamen chilling like a villain!Craig and Wayne - they sure look like they know what they are doing! Tonia and Karzen enjoying the ride.Tonia and Izzac hanging out
He's got the look down! That afternoon we celebrated Grandpa Morris's 86th birthday. A few other family members stopped by for cake and supper. It was great to see grandpa in his glory with everyone around. I think he probably slept for 3 days after being so worn out, but I think he welcomed the sacrificJack and Micah sure became buddies over the weekend!Jaxon had had enough, poor little guy was exhausted.
Enjoying the fire!As the night began to unwind, we found the kiddos doing this. Micah learned how to play Angry Birds from Jack and Andrew. His new request is his very own Iphone. Sorry buddy that isn't happening, but they had alot of fun "gaming" together.Andrew with mom and dad.. What a turkey! This was in the morning. I couldn't resist taking a picture of him because that is one of the memories I have from camping as a kid. Our plastic bowls, spoons and cereal. I don't know why but I thought it was the coolest thing ever! Well, I must not be the only one because Micah loved it and he ate two bowls full of Trix!
We had a fabulous weekend with the family. The weather was perfect and the company was awesome. I hope that we will be able to do it at least once a year, but who knows how that will go. Thanks for the great weekend everyone!
