Guatemala 2012 - Day 2

When we got up this morning, we took a walk up to the roof top of the hotel and this is what we saw. If that doesn't start the day out an a high note, I'm not sure what does.

We ate breakfast and then it was off the days events. We dropped part of the group off with Matt the Plumber. How he became known as Matt the Plumber is a story of it's own and simply amazing. I will share that some other time as to how the miracles of God are unbelievable.

After dropping them off, the rest of us went to Alejandro's home site. It was unbelievable to see all the good things happen today. The progress was amazing, tiring, emotional and exhilarating all in one big event. When we got to the house, this is the stage in which they had it. The back wall trench was dug and wall was started. Otherwise, you see the white chalk lines? That is the new trench location. Yes, probably 5' down or better, and all one scoop at a time, into a wheel barrow and taken out to the street to be used as fill dirt in the driveway. It took everyone a little bit to get there bearings and get a plan, but once things started clicking, it was all about serving.

This was one corner of the finished trenches. That area there will be a bedroom eventually. The trenches are for block walls that will be put in place at some point. We learned that they do everything in block because of termites. They are just terrible, so terrible the trees that line the streets are painted 1/2 way up the tree just to protect them.
Here is a picture of an Amigo Louis. All day we were able to laugh and joke around with each other but yet, we couldn't speak a lick of the same language. It is amazing how much of a connection you can make with a person despite the language barrier. We poked fun at each other each time we caught each other standing around taking a break. We just gave a "AGAIN" look or pointed at our ever so absent watches on our wrists and then both would laugh. He will be a memory that will stick with me forever.

We are so very excited to be helping Alejandro's family and getting the opportunity to meet and work side by side with these amazing people.

Tomorrow - we are hiking a volcano. This is one of Craig's bucket list items so on a hike we go!
The rest of the crew will be helping at the house again.
