Guatemala 2012 - Day 6

It was up and out the door this morning on our way to the orphanage. It was a beautiful day today, which helps shine the light on Casa Angelina. It is such a beautiful place for these precious children to be living.

Today was the first official "work" day for us. It was something to see everyone spread out like little worker bee's and do their part. The team was able to get a TON of work done. Painting, roofing the new school, cleaning, welding - painting - sanding the new beds for Leah's house, carpentry work, eye exams, dental hygienist work and much much more. I was with Craig and Jason Shaw doing electrical work all day. I would say the day was a success. It was a bit of a rough start for us as things weren't very simple and we ended up doing a lot of trouble shooting and that takes time. I fully believe God will show us why those hours may have felt a bit "wasted" but they were not in vain. Please do not take this as complaining because in no way shape or form are we doing that. We are happy to be here serving and doing whatever small part we can in the big picture of this amazing place. I am saying that we didn't feel very productive, but tomorrow is a brand new day and I am sure God will show us the reason in the next few days of being here. I would say today was a difficult day for Craig. He was pretty frustrated so any of you reading this, please pray for us through these next few days.

Amber and Jade at the hotel before we departed this morning . These ladies love those little ones so much. They were just brushing up their skills! :)
Craig as we know him, with belt and tools. He said he felt like himself again!
Working on the outside light. This was project #1 - it was a bad fixture. But of course you eliminate everything else first. :)
Jason working in the Agua house. This outlet was a bugger. It was only giving 80 some volts. After a lot of tracing and trying to figure it as well as two island outlets, we determined they were not fixable without pulling new wire and we don't have enough time to start doing that at this point.
We decided to pack it up here and head to the school to see if we could salvage the day. We put on covers, re-anchored boxes & conduit and changed some bulbs on the main floor. We still have the upstairs to do, hopefully we can get back there tomorrow afternoon. I know they have some work to do in the kitchen and many other houses. We need prayer to get it all done. I have a feeling we will divide and conquer tomorrow, I think that is potentially a better approach than all staying together but I am just the helper so it is whatever Craig and Jason decide.
I passed the bed making crew many times. Daryl working away, he is one great man. So glad we have been able to get to know him better on this trip.
At devotions tonight we had Emily and her little sister join us. They are the daughters of the women who are selling items at our hotel. They were playing with Scarlet's kindle fire and they both wanted to use it, so I grabbed mine and the little one sat on my lap and played Micah's favorite game, the match game. She had the sweetest giggle and I have no idea what she was saying, but I can tell you she likes horses. She would giggle and so something with excitement when she matched the horses! She melted my heart and just loved that little time with her on my lap. She then when back to her sister and came back to me asking something. Scarlet thankfully speaks spanish and she translated for me. She wanted to know if she could keep using it but on her sisters lap. I handed it right over and they sat through our entire devotional while playing. They heard us sing songs and praise God for all he has done in all our lives and through him, we were able to share that with those two little girls.

That was about it for the day. It is hard to believe we only have 1 more night in this hotel - Lidia is the owner and she is amazing! Then one night in Guatemala City, then home. Unbelievable, how fast this has gone.
