Day 1 at Casa Angelina!

Today was a day of many emotions. We were heading back to a place that has become so dear to Craig and my heart.  I wasn't sure how I was going to feel the second time around but I can tell you my heart is so full of love for all those children it is unbelievable.  I was told by dear Ms. Kathy Young that the kids would remember us and the parents and staff would also remember us and be all smiles when they see us again.  Boy oh boy, she was so right.  I no more than stepped off the bus and one of the house parents, Nanette broke out her largest smile and wrapped me in such a warm, love filled hug. It was amazing and humbling and I melted into pieces at that very moment.  The children have been through so much in their short little lives, but oh what a bright future they have thanks to the Lord above providing them a place to call home.

It was an emotional day for me personally, many tears were shed, hugs given and Hola’s said.  I can not emotionally imagine anyone throwing a child away, selling them to the sex trade or hurting them in the ways these children have been hurt.  It is completely unacceptable to me and for reasons of my own; it truly tortures my heart and sole to a degree knowing that this type of thing even exists in this world.  What is almost harder to believe is that with love, support, and nourishment these kids who have been saved at Casa Angelina have a future as bright as the brightest star.  All be the glory to God!  Our God is stronger and awesome in power and he has and is working miracles on a gorgeous hillside in Guatemala in a place called Casa Angelina!
The beautiful view!
What a wonderful smile and bright eyes filled with hopes and dreams!
Today was a day of orientation, walk in the village and the kids put on a program for us. It is always a hard day for the worker bees to be sitting idol per say, but it was wonderful to get the story of all the individual houses and how they have become what they are today.  As we walked by this leveled pad, it dawned on us that we have lots of concrete in our future!  Daunting task yes, but all is possible here at this rich with faith place!  There are 3 pads to be poured, school to paint (inside) and many other things and tomorrow is “Game on!”  Craig will be leaving early to head out with the construction guys to get started and the worker bees will work up to assist in what ever is needed.

This is new to the orphanage! A brand new soccer field!  It is awesome and the kids are thrilled to have it.  It has also opened up an avenue for the orphanage to work on their outreach programs as many kids / team from outside the walls of the orphanage come out to play on the field. What an amazing gift for the kids!
I will try to give you and idea of how much has happened in the last year at the orphanage.  They have added a brand new soccer field, Compassion house is nearing completion, 3 other houses have been started, and they have added 30 kids to the orphanage taking the total to around 100 PTL! We had the opportunity to see the kids that are in Leah’s house as well. Jodie did an amazing job of talking to the kids and telling them how special they are to everyone and how they have blessed all of our lives.
Harvest House – Iowa team!
How awesome is this! They received a  45KVA generator today!  For those of you that are saying – only a 45 KVA for the orphanage? Keep in mind, it is only fed by a 25 KVA transformer currently so they will have the ability to be self sustained even after they grow!

This is how we got into the village today.  I think they had 14 people on that mule and we had plenty in our van too!  It was pretty comical / scary seeing them all in that thing!
It was pretty rushed today in the village so we didn’t hand anything out and we didn’t get to see the widow that we went to visit.  There was another lady there that let us in to see it which was very kind of her, can you say humbling times 20?  It rocks my world every single time I see how they live in these villages.  I can not imagine living this life on a day to day basis. I posed the question to Craig, “What do you suppose they talk about to each other?”  They do not have much variety in their lives and the ability to have hopes and dreams is pretty slim I would say, what do they talk about? I personally will be praying that God works in their hearts and lets them speak of him when they have nothing to say.
This little sweetheart is 5 years old. She is so very tiny.
It was a great day and always a day of thinking and praying.  Continue your prayers, they are helping and as our team moves into the work phase of this week, please pray for our strength both physically and emotionally. Please pray for our restored energy as I think we are all dragging and I personally was a bit grumpy tonight due to it.

On a quick side note, we had the chance to Skype with Micah tonight. He is missing us, but I know he is having fun!  Today he went to Chuck-e-Cheese and roller skating!  It doesn’t get much better than that for a 6 year old!  I can’t wait to wrap him in my arms in a few days! Well it is time to hit the hay.

Love you all!!
