Yesterday we had Micah's 15 month doctors appointment! He currently weighs 24lbs 9oz (50th percentile), his head is 49cm (92nd percentile) and DRUM ROLL PLEASE...... He is 30" tall - DUM DUM DUMMMM - (15th percentile)!! Yep, he is a shrimp like his mommy! Let's hope he at least reaches average height!!! He doesn't seem to mind at this point so that is good! haa
It was shot day for Mr. Micah! Poor baby, getting shots is so tramatic! He did the whole look at mom like, "Why are you letting them do this to me?" Lucky for mom, dad was there and he had the priviledge of holding his arms! I appreciate not having to be the "bad guy" once in a while! He had his MMR, Tetanus cocktail, the first flu shot and his chicken pox vaccination. The chicken pox shot was a tough one for me! I truly feel that the kids are vaccinated for enough stuff! My concerns are that this vaccination has only been around for approx. 10 years so they have no idea long term what will happen. By getting the chicken pox once, it is over and you generally never get them again. I just felt that was the better choice, but I was over ruled and I caved. He has officially been vaccinated. We also discussed his sensitivity issues to food. In the past he has broken out in a skin rash when certain foods have come in contact with his skin. Examples of this are frosting from his first birthday cake, butter, homemade spaghetti sauce and those are just the few we have noticed. The Dr. (Which is not his normal peds doc) wants to send him to an allergy specialist to have him tested. At this point we are not going to do that. We have discussed this with various people and they seem to think it is a normal thing and a lot of kids have certain foods do this. I just feel at this point we do not need to test him for it, it doesn't affect him other than it takes anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hr to clear up. The last few times, I haven't given him any Benadryl and it seems to clear up just as fast. In my heart I just feel like it would be an unnecessary test. So that is that, we are not doing it. I hope it doesn't bite us in the rear!
Beware: I am back on my soap box!
I am not sure if anyone has ever had this happen, but I just need to let it out or I am going to explode! I have a friend that really offended me and I am not sure what to do with my emotions. It was the tone and the approach of the subject that bothered me most. I felt like they were being selfish in their actions and discounting everyone else around them. Like they didn't matter simply for their own benefit. It was all about the appearance and not for the cause. I have a hard time with the judgement of others and that is what I felt this was. I am realizing more and more that somethings just do not matter and doing what is right is the most important thing. This might not make perfect sense because of the vagueness, but I just had to get something out of my system. I have a tendency to hold in and then explode, I hope that this will help me relax. I am no saint and I don't pretend to be but sometimes all I can do is shake my head in amazement of other peoples perceptions.
TGIF everyone!! Have a good weekend!!

So glad to hear Micah's 15th month checkup went good. Too bad about all the shots though..at least he's done with them for a bit now :)! He is a cutie too by the way :)!!!
I hear ya' on having a hard time with the judgement of others. I try to not do this when others around me are doing it. I know what it feels like to be judged and it doesn't feel good. I don't pretend to be a saint either because God knows I do things like this but I truly make an effort to avoid doing this at all costs. I'm glad you vented...it's better then exploding :)!
Have a wonderful weekend Tess!!

I am glad that Micah is doing well...he has gotten cuter..if that is possible!! Such a big cutie pie!!
I am glad they mad the chicken pox vacine. I am one of those people who have NEVER HAD THEM!! If Marissa ever gets them I would have to move out for a while. That would be very tramatic to Marissa if that happened. I just pray that the vaccine works!! Would not be a good day in the Kearin house if it didn't. I do understand where you are coming from though!! The unknown is hard to deal with!!
I am sorry about things with your friend!!
What we should and shouldn't do for our kids. I understand the worry of immunizations. I guess my kids get what they need to get and I try not to analyze it to death. I tend to do that in my everyday life.
They say with the chicken pox vaccine...our kids might just have to get a booster if they think it's necessary (after 10 years). I guess we'll see...
I'm so glad to hear that you aren't going to get your little guy tested for what he's allergic to. My brother had/has really bad allergies. When he was about Micah's age his toenails popped off from blisters he got from running barefoot across the grass. They ran all the tests on him and he showed he was allergic to everything but glass. The Dr. then told my parents that kids that young will usually test allergic to everything because their skin is so sensitive. Of course they mention this after they've poked about a hundred holes in the poor kid. I feel it's better to wait and to avoid the things he's already shown a sensitivity to.
My daughter is allergic to milk, throws up violently when she drinks it, but she can have a moderate amount of cheese..go figure. Because of this allergy, I'm waiting to give her peanut butter until she's three. Just want to play it safe on the most dangerous allergens until I know for sure if she's going to follow in her uncles footsteps. For the rest, I'll just keep and eye on her.
I'm hoping Micah and my little Sarah will grow out of these allergies.
Ouy, the agony we go through trying to do the right thing for our children. The allergy specialist is very spendy. I think you are doing the right thing. If it is not causing him much difficulty, perhaps it will go away as he ages. And if it gets worse, you can always take him.
Sorry about your friend. I recently learned of someone who used to talk smack about me who I had no clue that they were even like that. I have never bad mouthed them, because I thought they were a genuinely good person. I know it was long ago and people change, but it still hurt my feelings. I am no saint either, and do not claim to be. I agree with you that doing the right thing is what is most important.
Hope you are having a better week!
Were glad that Micah had a good check up. I two hate the shot thing for all little ones cause they don't understand whats going on.
Glad everything went well for Micah's checkup.
I don't like it either when people are so judgmental...that is too bad.
My kids got the chicken pox shots too. Neither of them got the chicken pox.
I guess I'm like Tracy in that way...I just get what they need to get and not worry about it.
As far as allergies our son Derek has allergies. We were going to have him tested but decided against it as it was going to be very expensive.
The med's (Nasonex and over the counter allergy med)we are using for him are working so the dr said to keep doing that unless he gets worse.
