Yardwork, Bumper Bowling and Cousins!

Good afternoon all!  I hope this post finds you happy, safe and enjoying the spring as much as we are!!
It has been another crazy week at the Nelson's but I am certain you wouldn't accept anything less!

Tuesday night I had intentions to start sanding and staining Micah's new closet door and inside window trim.  I made an executive decision that food prep was more important.  I pattied up 3lbs of burgers and made 3 lbs of barbeque for the freezer.  Craig so graciously helped me by browning meat for the BBQ's and by being my taste tester!  It was enjoyable spending a solid hour in the kitchen with my hubby! Sounds funny, but it was great to get some one on one quality time together.

We recently learned that Micah has his first girlfriend!! I asked him the other day if he had a girlfriend and he said YES,  Miranda! Miranda is year younger than him and the daughter of our good friends.  They go to daycare together and from time to time we will get together and so something with our families.  He has stuck to this for a few weeks now and even Miranda will state Micah is her boyfriend when asked! Haa..  The other day, I asked Micah if he hugged Miranda, he said yes.  I asked if they held hands, he said yes.  I asked if he gave Miranda kisses, he said NO.  I said, that is good, cuz you don't want to catch any girl germs!  He stearnly stated that he didn't want any girl germs so no kisses! Now he will tell that to anyone who asks, NO kissing because I don't want to get girl germs!! :-)

Wednesday night - April 14th -was a park date with friends.  Micah has been asking for weeks to go the park with his buddy Chase.  We finally were able to line up our schedules and make it happen.  I biked down while Micah rode in the cart - he loves that thing!  After playing his little heart out, we headed home and promptly he ran in and asked his daddy if he could go get ice cream! So off to DQ we went in search of tasty ice cream.  He was a little disappointed that we were not going to ride the bike to DQ but quickly decided that he would rather ride in the car to get ice cream vs. not getting any ice cream at all!

Last week we grilled almost every night supper. I have been dabbling in the "marinade" aspect for meat.  It is WAY easier than I thought coming up with ideas for seasonings.  Wednesday night we had marinated boneless pork ribs. They were yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy!! On Friday night we grilled hot dogs and brauts and Micah insisted on having a picnic! It was a little chilly but we had a great time!  Craig and I both agreed it was fun and we will be doing that quite often this summer!

Here are a couple pictures of the boys..

After our picnic daddy and Micah decided it was time to wax the mower!  Yes, I did say WAX the mower!
Craig had to replace the front bumper and as most projects around our house, one thing led to another!

Micah helping daddy! "Wax on, Wax off!"
Micah thought we HAD to have our picture taken.. Haa.. All I can say is,
"You might be a redneck if you take a couple shot on a riding lawn mower!!" Bahhhh!
Micah wanting to drive the mower!
hankfully for our sake, he can't reach the pedals!
We also decided to bike over to the other Nelson's house for a visit.  This is quickly becoming part of our Friday night ritual. We allow Micah to ride his bike over there so it is a "BIG" deal to him!  He is getting better each day and finally figured out how to use the brakes! For some reason I think this is an important piece of the bike riding puzzle that was missing!

Saturday we worked on the yard in the morning. It is amazing the amount of junk that is in the yard after months of being covered by snow! Craig spent all day on it!! Micah and I took a break at 1:00 as we had a bumper bowling date with friends.  This was the first time bowling for Micah so it was alot of fun.  He tried to "throw" the bowling ball but we quickly learned his fingers are not long enough to fit into the holes of the ball.  Since the little stand that you can set the ball on and push it down was being used, we decided to use the "Granny Method!"  Worked like a charm and he had a lot of fun!!

Group shot of the kids.  What a crew they are!
There were a few times I thought I was going to have to run down the side and push it again as it rolled so slow but it always managed to make it!
Micah getting ready to roll it down the lane!!

Sunday we had a full day!  We had church service at 9, a luncheon at 11:30, we looked at some furniture at 3:00 and then we had small group at 6:00 PM.  We did not buy the furniture as it was not what we were looking for but it never hurts to look right! I actually saw that this set was on sale through Craig's List.  I have never done much with it but I am quickly becoming a fan!
After looking at the furniture we went home and it was nap time for Micah.  I let him sleep longer than I should have as he needed it!  I was waking him up telling him we had to go to church, he whines "But we already went two times!"  I said, "yes I know Micah but we have to go again."  He whines again, "Aweeee, Come on!! We already went two times!"  Being the softy I totally understood where he was coming from, the poor kid hadn't had a chance to just hang out at home all day!  I quickly called his Super Hero Uncle Ryan and asked if they wanted a little munchin for a few hours and he graciously said yes! Micah was super happy to hear he was going to his COUSINS and not back to church! When we picked him up they were roasting marshmellows! YUMMY!!  That adventure has sparked discussions in our house about a fire pit.  We might just have to build one of those!!
Here are a few pictures of them roasting marshmellows..

We are so blessed to have such a great family!
