Guatemala Trip - Day 6 - Home Sweet Home

Today is the day! We start our trip home from this life changing place!  We absolutely adore the people we have met here, they will be life long friends from afar.  We hope that someday some of them will be able to visit the US of A, but the VISA process for them is very difficult so the chances are slim.  I am so very thankful for Facebook as it allows us to remain in contact even if there are miles between us.

We headed to the airport for are departure from Guatemala City only to be told our flight was delayed.  Not the way we wanted to get our trip started.  We were delayed so much that the Iowa folks missed their connection so they were told they had to stay in Dallas for the night.  We were going to make ours, but it was going to be close!  We sat around the Guatemala airport and played Chat Pack and a few other games.  Once again getting to visit and get to know each other a little better.  Finally our flight departed and we were starting to piece together that it was going to be almost impossible to make our connection.  We had all agreed that we were going to have to run! When the doors opened and we were allowed off the plane, we were running.  As we turned the corner, there was a airline worker standing there with Orange envelopes with our names on them. They were handing them to us as we ran by.  It was a FAST TRACK pass for the airport! Amazing, I had never seen such a thing, but it essentially let us skip all the lines and go right to the front.  Due to this pass we flew through the airport and ran all the way to our gate.  We ran with Ginger and Deb and by the grace of God alone, we all made it on time!  Our entire team made it to our Sioux Falls bound gate with little time to spare.  One Iowa family even made it on their plane! One last chance for them and they made it!  Amazing!  I have always heard of stories or witnessed people flying through the airport, but I have never been that person.  I even slipped through the doors of the tram and made the doors open again, so Craig, Deb and Ginger could board.  The guy on the tram said, "Nice move!" As we boarded the plane and realized we had made it, I think we all wanted to jump up and down and celebrate! It was a talkative flight that is for sure.
We arrived in Sioux Falls and Ryan and Brandy were there to meet us.  What a sight for sore eyes! Thankfully they had our coats because we needed them! Brrrrr.  We had a safe trip home and went right over to pick up Micah.  We didn't care what time it was, we just wanted our baby with us! He woke up and was super excited to see us!  It was an amazing feeling to have our family complete again!
