Today is a new beginning!

I am going to start from today and work my way backwards in hopes to catch up for the past but I am not going to guarantee I am going to get all caught up.  I have felt like a piece of my life is missing so I am beginning from today and will fill in the past as I have time.  Please be patient with me as I get back into the swing of things.

Today I was able to spend most of the day with Micah.  Craig was working up at Justin's new place so Micah and I were on our own.  We slept in which was AWESOME!  I was surprised he slept in as long as he did, but I figured out tonight why that was.  He is running a fever tonight and not feeling the best.  I should have known something was up!  I hope that this will be a short lived sickness and Craig and I will miss it.  We leave in less than two weeks for Guatemala and we don't want to be sick for that. Praying Praying Praying!

Micah is growing up so fast it isn't funny.  He went with me today to get my hair cut/colored and he decided I should go with all red!  I didn't do it but he was bound and determined I should!  He was a bit disappointed when I didn't do it, but was pleased to see red in my hair as a highlight! It's official  we have another reader in the house!  He has read multiple books to us and is loving every minute of being successful at it.  What a great moral booster for him and awesome accomplishment!  He seems to have a good grasp of the phonics involved as well as remembering his sight words.  I'm not going to lie, it warms my heart to see him read and enjoy it! Kindergarten over all has been good for him.  He has learned a lot and made some great friends along the way.  He has struggled with the hard parts of growing up and trying to figure out why anyone would be mean at all.  He did have one encounter with a bully but that seems to have gone away for the most part.  I have noticed he is very hyper sensitive to what other people will think and tries not to do things that kids will make fun of him for.  He has been taking his lunch once in a while and one day I thought I would be a good mom and include a little note for him. Oh boy, that was a mistake.  He scolded me when he got home! "Mom, what if my friends would have seen it?  They would have made fun of me! Don't do it again!"  Opps!  Show and Tell needs to not exist in my opinion.  He has had his heart hurt so many times from that dumb thing.  He brings something that he is excited about and the other kids don't share the excitement and he is heart broken.  He took lava rocks that his daddy brought home from a volcano in Guatemala. When I asked how it went, he gave me the thumbs down.  He said nobody cared or thought they were cool.  Made me sad for him, but it is unfortunately part of life and he has to get used to the fact that what he is into isn't necessarily what everyone is into.  We have had many talks about not worrying about what others think but it is a hard hard lesson.  He seems to be adjusting to the changes, but it is a big change from preschool where everyone seemed to share the same educational and friendship bliss as him.

Craig has been doing well.  He has been busy at work which is always a positive in the winter. He hasn't had a lot of time to do any new projects at home, but that is ok as he needed a break.  He is still shooting pool league. He seems to enjoy it and does fairly well with it.

I am doing fine too. Work is always busier this time of year due to inventory and year end, but all in all it is ok.  I would say we have a love/hate relationship. I have been playing women's volleyball again this year.  It has been good to get out for an evening just spend some gal pal time!

We are gearing up for our 2nd missions trip to Guatemala.  We will be leaving on February 14th and returning February 23rd.  I am looking forward to seeing how it is the 2nd time around.  I feel like we will be experiencing it through fresh eyes as so much of the overwhelming stuff the first time won't be new and we will notice and feel different things.  Watch the blog for posts on our trip as we are down there.  Micah is super excited to be staying at the Steuerwald's during our trip. Truthfully, he is ready to kick us to the curb so he can get that stay underway! We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family that make this possible for us to go.

Hope all of you are happy and healthy!  Love you all!
