This week has been a tough week for our kitty, Baxter. Sunday he wasn't eating, was puking alot and he was real sluggish. For those of you that aren't aware, Baxter is a diabetic cat. He has to have insulin 2 x daily to keep it in check. With him getting sick, I was really scared they would tell me it was kidney failure or something like that. I was just sick about it, I didn't want to take him to the vet, but I did on Monday afternoon. They did blood work on him and found some levels that were out of wack but really didn't know anything so they wanted to keep him for more testing. Come Tuesday morning, I finally had a call! He has low potassium levels. So.. He has to have a potassium gel 2 times a day too! Goodness, the things we do for our pets! Micah and I went out yesterday to visit him. He perked up wonderfully when we were there! All he wanted was loves and for Micah to play with him. It was great to see after him being so sick! I have a hunch that he isn't eating or acting right when we aren't there, but I do believe most of that is him being stubborn. He is such a spoiled baby, I am guessing he is on strike. He wasn't eating anything but as soon as we went in there yesterday he started eating. STINKER! So, I will be heading out there at noon to see if he will eat while I am there. Then Micah and I will head back out there after work for a little while. They were going to let him out tomorrow but with us going on our trip, we are going to leave him there and kennel him. That way they can monitor him and make sure he is ok. I don't want to leave him alone for 3 days, even though we had someone lined up to do his meds. I just feel better if the docs check on him over the weekend. We hope all is going to be well with him!
I am sure some of you are thinking, CRAZY!! I would think that too if it wasn't myself in the situation. He is part of the family and we want to treat him well. Trust me, one sign of suffering and things are going to be different. I don't want that for him, if he can lead a normal life with the meds, then we will continue. Call me crazy lady if you wish, but I am a sucker for my animals!

I ABSOLUTELY agree. We have 2 dogs and our black lab, Maggie is on two different medications everyday. One of which is very expensive but it doesn't matter. We would do it for her in a heartbeat. I hope Baxter is doing better on this other med.
I do know what you mean. I would do that for my animals too. Well I did for Oscar until I could not do anything more for him. So you know what happened then. Sad day for me I will tell you. I hope Baxter is feeling better and I hope you have a great trip.

You aren't crazy!! You cat has become part of the family!! I am the same way with animals. I hope that he gets better!
Crazy cat lady! Only kidding. I can't believe we were just talking about this and then your cat got sick. I hope I did not jinx you, geesh.
I can sleep without my husband in the bed, but when it comes to my little princess chopper, no way! She is my little snuggle bug. Now that is whack!
I feel the same way about our dog Jake. I would do anything for him..so I don't think what you are doing for you cat is out of line :)! Jake takes a pill daily and if he ever requires more pills to help him live a long, happy, healthy life I would be willing to do it! It's amazing how much our pets mean to us.
I hope Baxter continues on his road to recovery!
Have a great day Tess!!

Baxter is part of the family, you do what you have to. Our Golden Retriever Jake is part of our family too. The other day we took him in because he had a broken toenail and all the Vet. did was pull it off. hee hee but we love our Jake...
I don't think your crazy. I love my cat, too. I would do all I could if it meant that she would be happy. I hope Baxter starts feeling his old self soon.
