Vacation Day 2

Day two of our Las Vegas trip began with us hanging out at the house having some breakfast and watching Airplanes! The fact that every few minutes a plane flies overhead is a little boys dream come true!

Mid morning we loaded up and began our trip to the Hoover Dam. What a beautiful day it was to see such a site! The dam is currently under construction as they are building a new bridge for truck traffic. They have found stress on the exisiting bridge so they are creating a different route for the heavier vehicles. It is quite the project to witness! While at the dam we took a "generator" tour. They took us down in an elevator to show us the generators that operate at the dam. The experience was an "Awe" moment. The size of it all is indescribable. If you ever get the chance to see it, I highly recommend you do so!These winged statues stand about 30' tall and are made of bronze. Legend has it that rubbing their toes brings good luck. (Yes, we rubbed their toes!)
After spending a few hours at the dam, we decided to head back into Boulder City to grab a bite to eat. After eating, we stopped at a location where you could take helicopter rides! We decided to cease the moment and do it! The tour we took lasted about 5 minutes in the air and it went over the hoover dam. It was beautiful and we loved the helicopter ride! I should say Craig and I loved the ride. Prior to the ride, Micah was super excited, but as we got into the flight, he realized quickly he didn't care for it. The ups and downs that make your stomach go up into your throat were a little to much for our little man. He did shed a few tears but for the most part he held up real well. He did like flying over "the water" (Lake Mead) as he really calmed down at that point. If you ask him today what he thought, he will tell you, "I not like helicopter ride! I like AIRPLANES!" Here are a few pictures from that adventure!

The dam itself
More dam
The white line around the lake is how far the water level is down! WOW
Lake Mead, once again the white showing is how low the water is!
Craig sitting upclose and personal with the pilot! He said it was awesome!
Micah (teary eyed) and I on the helicopter.
"LOOK MOM, WATER!!"
After the helicopter ride we jumped back into our car and drove to Flagstaff, AZ. It was a little over a 4 hr drive. Micah crashed for a while and we just enjoyed the ride. Craig was keeping his eyes pealed for different animals in the fields along the way and FINALLY he spotted something! He pointed and said, "There is some kind of animal!" as we got closer he said, "Oh yeah, it's a cow!" Maybe it isn't that funny to you guys, but it was hilarious to us. WOW, amazing! We spotted a COW in Arizona! :)
We checked into our hotel (The LaQuinta) - it was very nice! I highly recommend it if you ever get that way! We all settled in for a good nights rest as day 3 was going to take us to the Grand Canyon!!
