Memorial Day Weekend

We had an awesome Memorial Day weekend! On Friday we took off for Nebraska to spend the weekend with friends. We planned it so we would be there alittle earlier than everyone else so we could open up the place, mow the yard and get our things in order. Everyone else rolled in about the same time so it was nice to have that all done for them. We had 10 adults and 7 kids together for the weekend. It was quite the crew!! Three families stayed in tents and the rest stayed in the farm house. After getting everyone settled we all headed to bed so we could get up and playing in the morning.

Saturday morning we all work up pretty early! I think it was 6:00 / 6:15 or so when we woke up. We had breakfast and then we headed out to do some 4 wheeling, fishing and playing. Saturday was HOT and muggy but a lot of fun. We managed to get quite sunburned because I was dumb and forgot to put sunscreen on us! We had a minor catastrophe as we forgot to bring Micah's baseball cap. You all know he doesn't go ANYWHERE without his hat and glasses so we had to convince him it would be ok. He was one upset little boy but we managed to work around it! Saturday after we were all done playing, they decided was time to go swimming!! The kids all went and some adults. They were using the paddle boat and also jumping off the rope swing. Micah tried to go swimming but the water was a little too cold for him. Jason said his eyes about popped out of his head when he got in the water!!

He decided the paddle boat was a better place for him! They even let him steer it!! He had on a pair of goggles (not sure where they came from!) but my goodness, he looked hilarious!! He was none to the wise though, he thought he was a cool dude!! Everyone on the boat was singing, "Micah row your boat ashore!" he thought that was the best!!

After swimming etc, we headed back to the house/tents, ate supper and just sat around and visited. We did not have a lack of food that is for sure!! There was enough to feed an army so no one went hungry! If they did it was their own fault!! :-) Before bed, it started to lightning so we figured we better hurry up and get things buttoned up outside. We woke up at about 3:00 AM and it was POURING rain. The reason we woke up is because we were getting wet! After further investigation, we realized our tent floor was soaked and so was our belongings. We were fortunate enough to be on an air mattress so that kept us off the ground and really getting wet. The 2 other tents also didn't fair very well. Amanda and Jason + Meghan abandoned theirs and went into the house. The other family made it until about 6:00 am before retreating to their mini van! The only reason we stayed in the tent all night was because Micah didn't budge. The thunder and lightning was so loud it rattled you to the core, but he didn't even wiggle. I guess we wore him out and beings he was content, Craig and I decided to take one for the team!!! We didn't get alot of sleep but did manage to get some. The next morning we got up a lot later than expected (8:45). We ate breakfast and waited for the sunshine as it was still raining. The kids passed the time by playing games inside. Once the sunshine came out, we began the clean up phase. We pulled everything out of our tent and hung it over anything we could find! Vehicles, Trailers, Fences - all became clothes lines!! Thankfully the house had a dryer so we were able to dry a few things like pillows and some clothes! After the clean up we went fishing, 4 wheeling, shooting and playing some more!!

Sunday it was more of the same. Fishing, riding and shooting. We had alot of firsts for Micah this day!!! Micah had a lot of new experiences this weekend!!!

The hands on the hips crack me up!! Micah and Gary (Jason's dad) went hiking. Micah sure fell in love with him! He was referring to him as grandpa Gary by the end of the weekend!

In the evening we headed over the frog pond. Meghan passed the time by drawing in the sand!

Then it was her turn to shoot!! This was her first time shooting a gun, she was pretty excited! Kids have the darndest time keeping the correct eye closed so Jason had to help her out alittle! :)

Not to be out done, it was Micah's turn! He did pretty well considering he couldn't have been sighting anything up!! He had fun.. Later that night back at the farm, Jason helped him shoot at the pop cans and he hit a couple of those too! Not sure how, but he did!A picture of the view from on top of their land! Pictures just don't do it justice! Looks like a big flat piece of land, but what you can't see is that right up ahead it becomes a valley with beautiful terrain! Gary and Beth hope to build a house out there. I agree it would be a wonderful place to retire! Something about the great outdoors is amazing for the soul! Later that night around the camp fire we took a few pictures.

Alana, Meghan and Micah. These three had a lot of fun together. Alana and Micah did have their moments but they are the same exact age so that is bound to happen! All in all they made some great memories together!!

Monday Craig, Jason and Gary went for one last ride before we left. They rode all the trails and Craig really enjoyed that! He was smiling from ear to ear when he got back! It was just what the doctor ordered for him! He is paying for it by being really sore, but it was worth it I think. After they went riding we decided to go fishing one more time before we left.

They weighed it and it was 3 1/2 lbs! Crazy!!!

On the flip side, this is the bass Micah caught!! He was so proud of himself!! He can officiall cast out and reel it in all by himself!! I have a video I will post later..

We had to do a little hiking of course.. Jason had to climb a tree.. He seems to have to do this every time we are here!! :) Big boys are still kids at heart I guess!!

When we got back, this was the Bass Gary caught! Nice one as well!!

This is Micah before we even put the truck in drive at the farm. He was exhausted!! I guess that is what you call a successful weekend!!!

We ended up getting home about 9:00 PM on Monday. We had to be at work the next day and this week has been tough as we are all dragging butt!! We leave tonight again for NE. We are going to Harlan and Sandy's tonight and then we are off to Kansas tomorrow for Adam and Kelsey's wedding where Micah is the ring bearer.. I think I will be sleeping on the ride down!! Maybe that will help me catch up!!
